2. Product Information, Dianatal® obstetric gel

Use of Dianatal obstetric gel:

Dianatal® obstetric gel is sterile and packaged in three syringes each containing 11 ml of Dianatal® obstetric gel.

Dianatal® obstetric gel has been developed to include two differing formulations which vary in their viscosity and bio-adhesive properties to maximise their action in accordance with stage 1 and 2 labour.

Dianatal® obstetric gel stage 1 is used specifically during stage 1 of labour and has a high viscosity in comparison to Dianatal® obstetric gel stage 2 which is intended for stage 2 labour.

During each vaginal examination, 3-5 ml of gel is evenly distributed into the vaginal birth canal manually or by using the specially developed flexible vaginal applicator.

Application frequency and the amount of gel used is at the midwife or doctor’s discretion. If necessary, additional gel can be applied 15-30 minutes after the amniotic sac has ruptured.

To prevent slipping, the midwife or doctor should ensure that a clean dry towel is available to deliver the baby. The baby’s nose and mouth area should be wiped following delivery.

Dianatal® obstetric gel adheres to the vaginal walls and forms a thin, lubricating layer between your baby and your birth canal to reduce friction and ease birth.
